The producers of the upcoming movie adaptation of Jason Robert Brown's musical 13 announced on February 12 that they are holding an open casting call for the film, requesting general video submissions for male and female teen roles, as well as for Archie, who has Muscular Dystrophy. The deadline for submissions is March 2.
It was announced last year that Brown's musical, featuring a book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, would be adapted for the screen by Horn. Neil Meron, the Tony-nominated producer who led the film versions of Chicago (2002) and Hairspray (2007), recently signed on to the project, and Tamra Davis, remembered for helming Billy Madison (1995), will direct.
13, the story of a Jewish teen who's forced to move across country after his parents divorce, premiered on Broadway in 2008. It was the first—and so far, only—musical to feature a cast and band comprised solely of teenagers. Among the original cast was a young Ariana Grande and Graham Phillips.
