Lucky Japan audiences will soon have the chance to experience the magic of the Tony-winning two-part play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. A new mounting of the play has been announced to open at Tokyo's TBS Akasaka ACT Theater in summer of 2022.
This will mark the first production of the hit play to open in Asia and the second non-English version, after the German premiere slated to debut next month in Hamburg. In anticipation of this Tokyo production, the TBS Akasaka ACT Theater will undergo a major renovation beginning in 2021 and will re-open as a site-specific venue for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Broadway's Lyric Theatre underwent a similar renovation prior to its debut staging.
Based on J.K. Rowling's bestselling fantasy novels, the hit two-part sequel is written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany. It opened on Broadway in 2018 and went on to win six Tony Awards including Best Play.
The Japanese production will mark the seventh mounting of Cursed Child to open across the world.
