Johanna Day has signed on to reprise her 1997 turn as the Female Greek Chorus in the upcoming Broadway premiere of Paula Vogel's Pulitzer-winning drama How I Learned to Drive. The previously announced production, which will also reunite original stars Mary-Louise Parker and David Morse, will begin previews on March 27 and open on April 22 at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Day is a two-time Tony nominee for her performances in Proof (also alongside Parker) and Sweat. Her Broadway credits also include The Nap, You Can't Take It With You and August: Osage County.
Also new to the How I Learned to Drive company are Alyssa May Gold (Our Dear Dead Drug Lord) as the Teenage Greek Chorus and Chris Myers (BLKS) as the Male Greek Chorus.
How I Learned to Drive explores the complex relationship between Li'l Bit (Parker) and Uncle Peck (Morse), as a series of driving lessons progresses from innocence to something much darker. In addition to winning the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the play was honored with the Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, Drama Critics' Circle and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Play.
Mark Brokaw will repeat his original work as director for the Broadway production, which will feature scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Mark McCullough, video design by Lucy Mackinnon and original music/sound design by David Van Tieghem.
How I Learned to Drive is scheduled to play a limited engagement through June 7.
