Tony Yazbeck may be known as a Tony-nominated actor but he's also foraying into directing. Next year, he will be directing The Civil War for Manhattan Concert Productions. The musical by Frank Wildhorn, Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy takes place during the American Civil War, and told from the viewpoints of the Union Army, the Confederate Army and slaves. It will feature music direction from Jason Howland. The Civil War will be presented on February 14, 2021, at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. Casting will be announced at a later date. Yazbeck is about to star in Flying Over Sunset, which will begin performances on March 12; he will play screen legend Cary Grant.
The Civil War premiered on Broadway in 1999 and closed after 61 performances. It was nominated for two Tony Awards.
