Producer Ryan Murphy has released the first look at his upcoming Halston series on Netflix, starring Ewan McGregor as the famed fashion designer who designed for Jackie Kennedy and who then died in 1990 at the age of 57 of AIDS. During his life, Halston was friends with a host of celebrities, who he would frequent Studio 54 with, including Liza Minnelli and Andy Warhol. In the series, Krysta Rodriguez will play Liza Minnelli, the cast also includes Rory Culkin as filmmaker Joel Schumacher, Rebecca Davan as jewelry designer Elsa Peretti, David Pittu as fashion illustrator Joe Eula, Sullivan Jones as retail buyer/Halston lover Ed Austin and Gianfranco Rodriguez as window dresser/Halston partner Victor Hugo.
McGregor was last seen on Broadway in The Real Thing in 2014, Rodriguez was in both productions of Spring Awakening on Broadway, the Tony-nominated Pittu was last seen in The Front Page and Jones just made his Broadway debut this past fall in Slave Play.
Murphy is also producing The Prom movie adaptation and the A Chorus Line series for Netflix. Filming for Halston began on February 18. See the teaser (including Rodriguez with the Minnelli pixie cut) from the show below. A release date for Halston has not been announced.
