Gavin Creel and Sara Bareilles Are Not Closing Up Shop Yet
Tony-winning actor Gavin Creel and Tony-nominated composer Sara Bareilles are currently starring opposite each other in Waitress on the West End at the Adelphi Theatre. And they’re not ready to leave. The pair just announced that they will extend their limited engagement run in the musical for two weeks, until March 21. Bareilles plays Jenna, a down-on-her-luck waitress at a diner, who falls in love with her OBGYN Dr. Pomatter, after she finds out she’s pregnant. Waitress was created by Bareilles and Jessie Nelson, and was nominated for four Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway; it is selling tickets on the West End until July 4.
Harriet Harris & Chris Noth Set for Uncle Vanya at Berkshire Theatre Group
A slew of stars have signed on to appear in a new staging of Chekhov's classic Uncle Vanya at Massachusetts' Berkshire Theatre Group this summer. David Auburn will direct the production, featuring a translation from Paul Schmidt, set to run from August 6-29. The cast will include Tony winner Harriet Harris as Marina, Golden Globe nominee Chris Noth as Astrov, David Adkins as Vanya, Obie winner Mark Blum as Professor Serebryakov, Rebecca Brooksher as Yelena and Matt Sullivan as Telegin. The 2020 BTG summer season will also include Letters to the President (June 18-July 18), Godspell (July 23-August 29), Dogs of Rwanda (May 15-23), The R Word (May 16-24), They're Playing Our Song (June 11-July 4), B.R.O.K.E.N. code B.I.R.D. switching (July 9-August 1), And a Nightingale Sang (September 24-October 18) and Peter Pan (July 2-26).
Roberta Colindrez Is Playing Ball
Amazon has announced the cast of their upcoming A League of Their Own series. Among those starring in the show is Roberta Colindrez, who was in the original cast of Fun Home on Broadway. In the new Amazon show, based on the film of the same name, a group of women break barriers as they form the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943. Colindrez will play Mita, a pitcher from Texas. The series is executive produced by Abbi Jacobson of the Broad City series, who is also writing A League of their Own, alongside writer Will Graham.
Happy Birthday Doug Will Party Longer
Happy Birthday Doug just opened off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse on February 16 and it’s now extended until March 29 (originally scheduled until March 1). The new solo show written and performed by Drew Droege is about a group of gay men gathering at a Doug’s 41st birthday party as the booze flows freely and the stories come out. Michael Urie, currently on Broadway in Grand Horizons, is a producer on the show. Happy Birthday Doug is Droege’s follow up to his 2016 solo show Bright Colors and Bold Patterns.
