Martin McDonagh is keeping busy on Broadway and in Hollywood. The Tony-nominated playwright and Oscar-winning filmmaker, whose new play Hangmen will make its main-stem debut this spring, has solidified details for his newest big-screen project. McDonagh will write and direct a new film titled The Banshees of Inisheer, with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson aboard to star, according to Deadline.
Set on a remote Irish isle, the film sees Farrell and Gleeson as "two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship with alarming consequences for both of them."
McDonagh, who previously collaborated with stars Farrell and Gleeson on the Oscar-nominated dark comedy In Bruges, won an Academy Award for the short film Six Shooter. He earned a pair of additional Oscar nominations for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. McDonagh is a four-time Tony nominee for his plays The Beauty Queen of Leenane, The Lonesome West, The Pillowman and The Lieutenant of Inishmore. The Olivier-nominated Hangmen will begin its Broadway run on February 28 at the Golden Theatre.
Further details on The Banshees of Inisheer will be announced at a later date.
