Mrs. Doubtfire is the latest in a steady stream of movie-to-musical adaptations on Broadway, and the Jerry Zaks-directed reimagining of Robin Williams-led film comedy met the press on February 19. Led by Rob McClure (who was plucked from Beetlejuice to develop the show in Seattle), the new musical tells the familiar story of a struggling actor who poses as a female nanny to stay in touch with his kids following his divorce. Written by the Tony-nominated duo of Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Doubtfire begins previews at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on March 9 with an opening night on April 5.
At the press preview, McClure sang the songs "Want to Be There" and "Easy Peasy." His show kids, Analise Scarpaci, Jake Ryan Flynn and Avery Sell sang "What the Hell," a song that takes place after Mrs. Doubtfire comes for her first interview as a nanny.
