Calista Flockhart, an award-winning star known for TV's Ally McBeal, will take the stage of Huntington Theatre Company this fall in a new mounting of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband. Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois will helm the production, slated to run from September 25 through October 18, 2020 at the Boston theater.
Flockhart earned three Emmy nominations and won a Golden Globe Award for her title turn in the 1997 Emmy-winning series Ally McBeal. Her stage credits include Broadway turns in The Glass Menagerie and Three Sisters and off-Broadway performances in Beside Herself, Bovver Boys, Mad Forest, Wrong Turn at Lungfish, Sophistry and The Vagina Monologues.
Wilde's comedy about money, desire and the depths of deceit is set at a sparkling party in a London home, where the mysterious Mrs. Cheveley (Flockhart) slyly blackmails her host, threatening to reveal dark secrets unless she gets her way. Suddenly, her devious scheme sets off all kinds of potential shockwaves involving social status, financial ruin and the essential reputation of an ideal husband.
The Huntington's 2020-2021 season will also include The Simon & Garfunkel Story (June 16-28, 2020), Lackawanna Blues (July 9-July 25, 2020), What the Constitution Means to Me (July 28-August 23, 2020), Witch (October 16-November 15, 2020), Common Ground Revisited (January 8-February 7, 2021), Teenage Dick (February 19-March 21, 2021), Songbird (March 12-April 4, 2021) and Hurricane Diane (May 21-June 20, 2021).
