Full casting is here for Exception to the Rule, the New York debut work of playwright Dave Harris, set to make its world premiere this spring as part of the Roundabout Underground program. The previously announced production, directed by Miranda Haymon, will begin previews on April 30 and officially open on May 21 at the Black Box Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.
The cast will include MaYaa Boateng (Fairview) as Erika, Malik Childs (Orlando) as Tommy, Toney Goins (Father Comes Home from the Wars) as Dayrin, Galen Kane (This Land Was Made) as Abdul, Claudia Logan (The Deuce) as Dasani and Kadijah Raquel (A Raisin in the Sun) as Mikayla.
Exception to the Rule is set in a city high school, where six students are stuck in Room 111. They flirt, fight and tease, determining whether they should follow the rules and stay put or find an escape.
Currently appearing at Roundabout Underground is the new musical Darling Grenandine, which recently extended its run through March 22.
