The 2020 Olivier Award nominations were announced on March 3. The show with the most nominations is & Juliet with nine. & Juliet uses the pop songs of Swedish hitmaker Max Martin, and a book by David West Read, to imagine what would happen if Juliet hadn't died at the end of Shakespeare's play. Director Trevor Nunn's revival of Fiddler on the Roof received eight nominations. Dear Evan Hansen, which won the Best Musical Tony in 2017 and transferred from Broadway, was nominated for seven awards. The most-nominated play, with five each, are Death Of A Salesman and Rosmersholm. There were also a number of noteworthy acting recognitions, including Tony winner Wendell Pierce for Death of a Salesman, Lauren Ward for Dear Evan Hansen, Judy Kuhn for Fiddler on the Roof, Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Fleabag and Sharon D. Clarke for Death of a Salesman (Clarke will appear in the upcoming Broadway revival of Caroline, or Change). The Best New Musical nominations also includes Waitress (which just closed on Broadway) and Amélie the Musical (which played Broadway in 2017). The 2020 Olivier Awards will be held on April 5, 2020 London's Royal Albert Hall. Jason Manford, who hosted last year, will return to host this year. A full list of nominations can be found below.
