On the heels of a brief 2019 engagement, Out of the Box Theatrics' unique new off-Broadway staging of Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire's 1984 musical Baby will play an extended return run this spring. Tony winner Alice Ripley will reprise her leading performance for the remount, directed and choreographed by Ethan Paulini, scheduled to run from April 17 through May 10 at the offbeat venue Theatrelab.
Baby, which features a score by Shire, lyrics by Maltby Jr. and a book by Sybillie Pearson, follows three couples on a university campus dealing with pregnancy and parenthood. The Broadway production, which was directed by Maltby Jr., garnered seven Tony nominations, including Best Musical. Ripley will play expectant mother Arlene, a role played in the original production by Beth Fowler.
Joining Ripley in the cast will be Elizabeth Flemming as Lizzie, Robert H. Fowler as Alan, Gabrielle McClinton as Nicki, Evan Ruggiero as Danny and Christina Sajous as Pam. The ensemble will include Marisa Kirby, Sy Chounchaisit and Jorge Donoso.
The production will feature music direction by Cody Dry, production design by Rien Schlecht, lighting design by Scout Hough and sound design by Alan Waters.
