The New York City Center Encores! production of Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Uhry’s Parade is coming to Broadway. This marks the first revival of the musical, which premiered in 1998. Directed by Michael Arden, the production is set to play Broadway's Jacobs Theatre beginning on February 21 with opening night on March 16. The limited engagement will play through August 6. Tickets are now on sale.
Tony winner Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond will reprise their turns as Leo Frank and Lucille Frank. Inspired by historical events, Parade follows Lucille and Leo Frank—a Jewish couple living in Marietta, Georgia—as they are pulled apart and drawn together by Leo’s 1913 murder trial, conviction, appeal and eventual lynching. Additional casting is to be announced.
"Twenty-five years ago, we were honored to bring the story of Leo Frank to the musical stage, guided by our visionary director, Hal Prince," Brown and Uhry said in a statement. "It was an extraordinary gift to watch a whole new audience connect with Parade at City Center under the thrilling direction of a new visionary: Michael Arden. We couldn’t be more grateful that this production is now moving to Broadway, where even more people will get to see Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond deliver phenomenal performances and lead this large and gifted cast.”
Parade features choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, scenic design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, sound design by Jon Weston, projection design by Sven Ortel, music direction by Tom Murray and hair and wig design by Tom Watson.
Parade first bowed on Broadway at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in 1998. Composer Brown and librettist Uhry both won Tony Awards for their work. The original production, directed by Harold Prince, starred Brent Carver and Carolee Carmello.
