Christopher Fitzgerald, not Kirk McDonald as previously announced, will be taking on the role of Boq in the Broadway production of Wicked, according to a production spokesperson.
Fitzgerald recently completed a run in the Huntington Theater Company production of Springtime for Henry opposite soon-to-be Jessica Stone. The two will be married in Williamstown in a few short weeks. He earned a Drama Desk nomination for his supporting work in his only other Broadway credit, the short-lived Amour. His off-Broadway credits include Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Fully Committed, Saturday Night for which he received a Drama Desk nomination, Corpus Christi, The Cripple of Inishmaan and the Encores! mounting of Babes in Arms.
McDonald appeared in the San Francisco tryout of Wicked and was expected to reprise his role on Broadway. However a production spokesperson told Broadway.com he left the production by "mutual agreement" with the creative team.
Wicked, starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, is scheduled to begin previews at the Gershwin Theatre on October 7 in preparation for an October 30 opening.
