There will soon be a new munchkin in the land of Oz. Queer as Folk star Randy Harrison will fill in for Christopher Fitzgerald as Boq in Wicked from June 22 through July 25. Fitzgerald is taking time off from the hit Broadway musical, so he that he can appear in Cabaret & Main and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Although Harrison is best known for playing artist Justin Taylor on the Showtime series Queer as Folk, he began his acting career doing musical theater. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, where he appeared in stage productions of Hello Again, Children of Eden, Rags and Babes in Arms. He was also featured in productions of 1776, Grease and Anything Goes at the St. Louis MUNY. His other theatrical credits include Violet at the Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, West Side Story at the Forestburgh Playhouse and A Midsummer Night's Dream. In May 2002, he made his New York theatrical debut in the off-Broadway play A Letter From Ethel Kennedy.
Wicked currently stars Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Joel Grey, Norbert Leo Butz and Carole Shelley. However, during Harrison's tenure, he will see both a new Glinda and a new Fiyero. Chenoweth and Butz are leaving the tuner on July 18. Joey McIntyre is taking over for Butz two days later, but a Chenoweth replacement has not yet been named.
