The hot Chicago Shakespeare Theater is taking its all-male production of Rose Rage, which condenses all three parts of Henry VI into one theatrical product, and bringing it to New York. The show, directed by Edward Hall, will play at the Duke on 42nd Street from September 17 through October 18, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.
Adapted by Hall and Roger Warren, Rose Rage ran Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare Theater from September 18, 2003 through January 18, 2004. In this adaptation, set in a Victorian slaughterhouse, battle scenes and murders are mimed before a background of literal butchery. Madrigals, hymns, Gregorian chants and Catholic anthems resound against the violence. The production had two intermissions and a dinner break.
The Chicago cast, all of whom will be coming to New York with the piece, included Jason Denuszek, Will Dickerson, Sean Fortunato, Chris Genebach, Timothy Gregory, Mark L. Montgomery, Scott Parkinson, Jay Whittaker, Bruce A. Young, Joe Forbrich, Carman Lacivita and Fletcher McTaggart.
