Carol Kane is joining the cast of Larry Gelbart's Sly Fox on August 17, a production spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com. She will take on the role of bordello regular Miss Fancy, which is currently played by Rachel York. York is staying with the production, but she's switching roles. She'll make the move from sinner to saint, replacing Elizabeth Berkley as churchgoer Mrs. Truckle.
Kane is probably best known for her Emmy-winning performance on TV's Taxi. She has appeared in a wide variety of films, including Carnal Knowledge, The Last Detail, Dog Day Afternoon, Hester Street for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, Annie Hall, The Muppet Movie, Norman Loves Rose, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Ishtar, The Lemon Sisters, The Princess Bride, Scrooged, Addams Family Values and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Her Broadway credits include The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds and Ring Around the Bathtub.
Sly Fox, based on Ben Jonson's Volpone, opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on April 1 to mixed reviews. The production, directed by Arthur Penn, continues to feature Eric Stoltz, Bob Dishy and Bronson Pinchot. As we reported on July 22, other replacement stars in Sly Fox are Richard Kind, Larry Storch and Richard Libertini.
