The Roundabout Theater Company has announced the complete cast for its upcoming production of Pacific Overtures. Eric Bondoc, Evan D'Angeles, Joseph Anthony Foronda, Yoko Fumoto, Alvin Y. F. Ing, Fred Isozaki, Francis Jue, Darren Lee, Hoon Lee, Michael K. Lee, Ming Lee, Telly Leung, Paolo Montalban, Alan Muraoka, Mayumi Omagari, Hazel Anne Raymundo, Yuka Takara, Kim Varhola and Scott Watanabe will join previously announced star B.D. Wong in the revival.
Bondoc has appeared in New York in Tokyo Can-Can. D'Angeles appeared in Miss Saigon on Broadway. Foronda's Broadway credits include Miss Saigon and Shogun: The Musical. Fumoto's theatrical credits include The King and I, Lady Be Good, Sound of Music and Calamity Jane. Ing's theatrical credits include Heading East, Back to Methusaleh, City of Angels, Romeo & Juliet, The Wash and a different mounting of Pacific Overture. Isozaki's theatrical credits include The King and I, Anything Goes, Pirates of Penzance and Runaways. Jue was featured in the original cast of Thoroughly Modern Millie as Bun Foo. Darren Lee's Broadway credits include Seussical, Kiss Me Kate, On the Town, Chicago, Victor Victoria, Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon and Shogun: The Musical. Hoon Lee has appeared on the Great White Way in Urinetown and Flower Drum Song. Michael K. Lee's Broadway credits include Miss Saigon, Rent and Jesus Christ Superstar. Ming Lee appeared on Broadway in Miss Saigon. Leung previously appeared on Broadway in Flower Drum Song. Montalban, who was featured in the last Broadway revival of The King and I, is probably best known as The Prince in the 1997 ABC television movie and subsequent tour of Cinderella. Muraoka's Broadway credits include Miss Saigon, The King and I, My Favorite Year and Shogun: The Musical. Omagari's American theatrical credits include Miss Saigon, The King and I, Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Starlight Express. Raymundo's theatrical credits include the first national tour of Miss Saigon and a European tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. Takara has appeared on Broadway in Mamma Mia! and Flower Drum Song. Varhola has been seen on Broadway in Rent, Flower Drum Song and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Watanabe previously appeared on the Great White Way in The Phantom of the Opera.
Pacific Overtures tells the history of Japan, from Commodore Perry's expedition to "Nippon" in 1853 to the country's rise as a powerful economic force. It features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by John Weidman and additional material by Hugh Wheeler.
This production of Pacific Overtures, directed by Amon Miyamoto, is scheduled to begin performances at Studio 54 on November 12 in preparation for a December 2 opening. The creative team for the show includes set designer Rumi Matsui, costume designer Junko Koshino, lighting designer Brian MacDevitt and sound designer Dan Moses Schreier.
