Dodger Stage Holding has announced all of the fall tenants to be housed inside Dodger Stages, its new five-theater complex. Mandy Patinkin in Concert, Daniel Goldfarb's Modern Orthodox and a show by The Umbilical Brothers will join previously announced occupants Symphonie Fantastique, Bare and The Immigrant.
There are no dates yet announced for Mandy Patinkin in Concert. Patinkin, who can currently be seen on the small screen in Showtime's Dead Like Me, performed an incarnation of Mandy Patinkin in Concert at the Neil Simon Theater for one performance on September 10, 2001. He was last seen on the New York stage in his concert Celebrating Sondheim December 2, 2002-January 6, 2002, which was produced by the Dodgers.
Modern Orthodox premiered at the Long Wharf Theater in 2001. Directed by James Lapine, this mounting will begin performances on November 9 in preparation for a December 6 opening. A New York Yankees yarmulke, an on-line dating service, a lifetime of unresolved guilt and a loaded gun are just a few of the bumps along the road to wedded bliss in this new age comedy.
The Umbilical Brothers are best known for their show Thwak, which features physical humor and a huge range of self-produced sound effects. In the New Vaudeville tradition of thinking man's clowns, Australian creators/performers David Collins and Shane Dundas use tightly choreographed hi-jinx and live-audio acrobatics to create a surreal world in their shows. No dates have been announced for their run at Dodger Stages.
As previously reported, Symphonie Fantastique will begin performances tonight, August 31. Bare is scheduled to start on October 13 and The Immigrant will kick-off on October 19. One of these announced shows will play in the same theater as another one with it being likely that Mandy Patinkin in Concert will play dark days on one of the stages, but it has not yet been announced exactly how that will be organized.
