Writer/director Jerome Chodorov, who wrote the book for Wonderful Town and the play, My Sister Eileen, on which it is based, died September 12 at the age of 93, a spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com.
Chodorov was born on August 10, 1911 in New York City. He wrote the Broadway plays Schoolhouse on the Lot, Junior Miss, The French Touch, Anniversary Waltz, The Ponder Heart, Three Bags Full and A Talent for Murder. In addition to Wonderful Town which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1953, Chodorov wrote the librettos for the musicals The Girl in Pink Tights and I Had a Ball. He also wrote sketches for the musical revue Alive and Kicking which played on Broadway in 1950. He directed The Gazebo and Christine on Broadway. His film credits include My Sister Eileen, Junior Miss, Happy Anniversary, Those Endearing Young Charms and Louisiana Purchase.
