Leslie Uggams is replacing Diahann Carroll in the Kennedy Center production of Ernest Thompson's On Golden Pond. Carroll was forced to withdraw from the production when she suffered an injury over the weekend that aggravated a previous condition, leaving her with a herniated disk and severe muscle strain.
Uggams most recently appeared on the New York stage in Thoroughly Modern Millie. She received a Tony for her performance in Hallelujah, Baby!. Her other Broadway credits include Her First Roman, Jerry's Girls, Blues in the Night, Anything Goes and King Hedley II. Television credits include Roots and The Leslie Uggams Show, her own musical variety series.
Directed by Leonard Foglia, On Golden Pond is scheduled to play at Kennedy Center for three weeks September 28 - October 17. In additions to Uggams, the cast features James Earl Jones, Linda Powell, Peter Francis James, Craig Bockhorn and Alexander Mitchell.
