Original Broadway stars Marin Mazzie and Donna Murphy will reunite for a 10th anniversary concert of Passion at the Ambassador Theatre on October 20, 2004 Tony winner Michael Cerveris, who played Giorgio at the Kennedy Center and the Ravinia Festival, will again take on the role in this benefit for Friends In Deed.
Set in 19th century Italy, Passion tells the tale of a handsome army captain Cerveris, who is separated from his beautiful--but married--mistress Mazzie, and is forced to re-evaluate his beliefs about love when he becomes the object of the obsessive, unrelenting passions of Fosca Murphy, his Colonel's plain, sickly cousin. Featuring a score by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine, Passion ran at the Plymouth Theatre from March 24, 1994 to January 7, 1995. The production received four 1994 Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Book for Lapine, Best Original Score for Sondheim and Best Actress for Murphy. In addition to Murphy and Mazzie, many other members of the original Broadway cast are expected to participate in this concert, which will feature musical direction by Paul Gemignani.
