Adam Garcia and Caroline O'Connor will star as Chip and Hildy in the musical On the Town at the English National Opera in London. The production, directed by Jude Kelly and choreographed by Stephen Mear, is scheduled to begin performances on March 5.
Garcia first rose to fame playing Tony Manero in the West End production of Saturday Night Fever. The show earned him an Olivier Award nomination. His other theatrical credits include Hot Shoe Shuffle, Grease, Birdy, An Introduction to Their Picture, Cadillac Ranch and Where Do We Live. Garcia may be known to American audiences for his roles in the films Coyote Ugly, Riding in Cars with Boys and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. He also provided the voice for the title character in Kangaroo Jack.
On the Town features music by Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. It centers on three American sailors who set out to experience the best of New York during one day's shore leave in wartime.
In addition to Garcia and O'Connor, the cast of this revival will include Helen Anker, Philip Ball, Lucy Schaufer, Willard W. White and Greg Winter in featured roles. Tom Dwyer, Bob J Harns, Nick Holmes, Stori James, James O'Connell, Nick Searle, Tristan Temple and Liam Mikhail Wrate will all appear as part of the ensemble.
