Barbara Caruso, Herb Foster, David Furr, Malcolm Ingram, David Manis, Laura Odeh, Jim Stanek, James Urbaniak, P.J. Verhoest, David Christopher Wells and Sarah Zimmerman will complete the cast of the upcoming Lincoln Center Theater production of Richard Brinsley Sheridan's The Rivals, a production spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com. They join previously announced stars Emily Bergl, Richard Easton, Dana Ivey, Matt Letscher, Brian Murray, Keira Naughton, Carrie Preston, Jeremy Shamos and Jim True-Frost.
Caruso has appeared on Broadway in A Severed Head, The Might of the Iguana and LCT's 2002 revival of Morning's at Seven. Foster's Broadway credits include The Playboy of the Western World, Noises Off, Me and My Girl, Getting Away with Murder, The Herbal Bed, Amy's View and Kiss Me, Kate. Furr appeared on the Great White Way last season in LCT's revival of King Lear. Ingram understudied Frank Langella for Match. All of Manis' Broadway credits have been with LCT--he appear in the company's productions of Abe Lincoln in Illinois, Aracdia, Morning's at Seven and Henry IV. Odeh's regional theater credits include The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Quick Change Room and Popcorn. Stanek has appeared on Broadway in Indiscretions and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Urbaniak is best known for his film work, which includes Henry Fool Sweet and Lowdown and American Splendor. Verhoest has appeared on Broadway in Oklahoma! and The Boy from Oz. Wells' regional credits include Love's Labours Lost, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Seagull, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Richard III, As You Like It and Never the Sinner. Zimmerman served as a swing in the Broadway mounting of The Full Monty and later appeared in the tour of the musical.
The Rivals, written in 1774, centers on Captain Absolute Letscher who disguises himself as a poor naval officer in order to woo the idealistic Lydia Languish Bergl. Standing between the two lovers is a host of quirky characters, including the captain's harsh father Sir Anthony Absolute Easton, Lydia's sassy aunt Mrs. Malaprop Ivey and the captain's friend turned rival Bob Acres Shamos.
This production, directed by Mark Lamos, is scheduled to begin previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on November 26 and open on December 16.
