John Ellison Conlee, Nancy Anderson, Mark Ledbetter, Sean Palmer, Jeffrey Schecter, Jeff Brooks, James Clow, Beth McVey and Jennifer Hope Wills will join Jason Danieley, Sally Murphy and Emily Skinner in the Encores! staging of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. The production, directed by Gary Griffin, is scheduled to run from February 10 through February 13.
Conlee is best known for his Tony nominated portrayal of Dave Bukatinsky in The Full Monty. Anderson has appeared on the Great White Way in A Class Act and Wonderful Town. Ledbetter appeared in the film It Runs in the Family and in the ensemble of the Thoroughly Modern Millie tour. Palmer is best known for his stint on Sex and the City and taking over the starring role in Saturday Night Fever on Broadway. Schecter has appeared on the Great White Way in Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls and Wonderful Town. Brooks is currently appearing as Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast. Clow recently finished playing the Tour Guide in Wonderful Town. McVey most recently appeared on Broadway as Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Wills just finished playing Eileen Sherwood opposite Brooke Sheilds' Ruth Sherwood in Wonderful Town.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn tells the story of the Nolan clan, a Brooklyn working-class family at the turn of the century, comprised of Johnny, who finds relief in a bottle, his wife Katie, their daughter Francie, who idolizes her father, and Katie's audacious sister, Cissy. The show features music by Arthur Schwartz, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and a book by George Abbott and Betty Smith who wrote the novel on which the musical is based.
