Broadway.com has learned that Hugh Jackman will return as the host of the Tony Awards for the third year in a row. The 2005 Tony Awards will take place on June 5 at Radio City Music Hall.
Jackman won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his acclaimed performance in The Boy from Oz. A musical theater veteran, with Australian productions of Beauty and the Beast and Sunset Boulevard among his credits, Jackman earned an Olivier Award nomination for his performance as Curly in the National Theatre production of Oklahoma! in 1998. He also starred as Billy Bigelow in a Carnegie Hall concert of Carousel in 2002. Jackman's film career took off with a high-profile part in X-Men. He has since appeared in the movies Someone Like You, Swordfish, Kate & Leopold for which he earned a 2002 Golden Globe nomination, X-Men 2 and Van Helsing. He recently completed filming on The Fountain, which is scheduled to be released late this year.
The 59th Annual Tony Awards will air live on CBS in a three-hour presentation from 8pm to 11pm. This year there will be more design awards than in previous years, raising the amount of Tony categories to 25.
