Christina Applegate has been forced to bow out of the Chicago run of Sweet Charity early. The star injured her foot at the top of the March 11 performance at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. according to a production spokesperson, having to leave the production after the "Rich Man's Frug" dance number to be examined at an area hospital.
Understudy Dylis Croman Fosse, Thou Shalt Not, Oklahoma! finished that March 11 performance in place of Applegate and also went on as Charity for the March 12 matinee. Chicago star Charlotte d'Amboise, Applegate's standby, flew to the Windy City to play the final two performances of the engagement, March 12 at 8PM and March 13 at 3PM.
The full extent of Applegate's injury is unknown at this time. Sweet Charity is scheduled to play Boston's Colonial Theatre from March 18 to March 27 and start previews at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4. Opening night on Broadway is scheduled for April 21.
