The League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers announced the winners of the 20th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards on May 2 at Dodger Stages. Doubt topped the list of recipients with five awards. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee which, like Doubt, has transferred to Broadway, Counsellor-At-Law, Intimate Apparel and Nine Parts of Desire each received two Lortels. Two special awards were also be presented at the Lortel Award ceremony: Frances Sternhagen received the Edith Oliver Award for Sustained Excellence and The Irish Repertory Theatre was honored for its Outstanding Body of Work.
