The Tony Awards Administrative Committee made the final eligibility decisions of the 2004-2005 season on May 5. The committee met previously to consider shows which opened during the season.
The typical rule of thumb for acting nominations is above-the-title billing means a person is considered in the leading category, while below-the-title billing equals consideration for awards as a featured performer. Every situation is different and each year, producers petition for certain people to be considered in a particular way.
With that in mind, the committee has deemed that Cheyenne Jackson and Jenn Gambatese will be considered for in the Best Lead Actor/Actress in a Musical category. The entire company of Glengarry Glen Ross will be considered in the Best Featured Actor in a Play category. Steel Magnolias' entire company will be considered in the Best Featured Actress in a Play category. Billy Crudup and Jeff Goldblum of The Pillowman will be considered in the Best Actor category; meanwhile, that show's Zeljko Ivanek and Michael Stuhlbarg will be considered in the Best Featured Actor in a Play category. Victoria Clark, star of The Light in the Piazza, is eligible in the Best Actress in a Musical category. A previously unannounced decision from the April 14 meeting finds both Kate Reinders and David Larsen of Good Vibrations to be considered in the Best Lead Actor/Actress in a Musical category.
All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits.
The Tony Awards nominations will be announced on May 10. The awards ceremony, hosted by Hugh Jackman, will take place at Radio City Music Hall on June 5.
