Doubt and Spamalot topped the list of winners of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Awards, each production taking four awards. John Patrick Shanley's Doubt won Outstanding Broadway Play with leads Cherry Jones and Brian F. O'Byrne and director Doug Hughes also winning in their respective categories. Spamalot was named Outstanding Broadway Musical in addition to winning for director Mike Nichols, featured actress Sara Ramirez and costume designer Tim Hatley.
The Outer Critics Circle is an organization of writers and commentators for all media covering New York theater, representing more than 90 outlets including Broadway.com. The annual awards ceremony will be held on May 26 at Sardi's Restaurant.
