This year shows nominated for the Best Musical Tony Award will have two chances to shine. They will each be featured in the broadcast's opening number as well as a number of their own later on in the telecast.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will do a snippet of one of their final songs, "Dirty Rotten Number," featuring Best Actor nominees John Lithgow and Norbert Leo Butz, during the Tony Award opening number. Later on, the tuner will present Butz and company singing "Great Big Stuff." The Light in the Piazza will do a segment of "Passeggiata," featuring Matt Morrison and Kelli O'Hara, at the start of the Tonys and then "Statues and Stories," performed by O'Hara and Victoria Clark, during a subsequent period. In the Tony opening, Spamalot will highlight a section of a scene that takes place at Camelot by singing part of the song "Spamalot." Many of the tuner's featured cast members will then perform "Find Your Grail" later on in the broadcast. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will perform the show's title song twice--once during the start of the Tonys and then again for show's stand-alone number. There will be one twist--the second time the Bee company takes to the stage, the song will lead into "Prayer of the Comfort Counselor."
Tony winner Hugh Jackman will host the 59th Annual Tony Awards on June 5 at Radio City Music Hall.
