Urban Cowboy's Jenn Colella is set to appear in the off-Broadway musical Slut at the American Theatre of Actors. The cast of the tuner will also include Mary Faber, who recently played the title role in Junie B. Jones at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
"Whenever I tell my friends I'm in Slut they think I'm the slut," Colella told Broadway.com. "They don't believe me that it is the guy and I don't think they will until they see it. Slut is a word that usually applies to women, but not here. I really like that."
Colella, who appeared in two previous readings of Slut, is best known for playing leading lady Sissy in Urban Cowboy on Broadway. Her other theatrical credits include Peter Pan, Angels in America, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Company, Sylvia, Victor/Victoria and the New York Musical Theatre Festival mounting of The Great American Trailer Park Musical. Colella also hosted the game show Can You Tell?.
"Delia [her Slut character] is a rock star," Colella said. "Who would not want to play that? I had a rock band at home and I love getting up there. There is nothing like being a rock star. I'm ready!"
Slut, directed by Gordon Greenberg, will begin its limited off-Broadway engagement on September 13.
