Martin McDonagh's critically acclaimed The Pillowman will play its final performance at the Booth Theatre on Sunday, September 18. It will have played 23 preview and 208 regular performances at the time of its closing. The production will shutter with original stars Billy Crudup, Jeff Goldblum, Zeljko Ivanek and Michael Stuhlbarg, who were all contracted through September 18. Producers are choosing to close the show instead of recasting.
The Pillowman, which is directed by John Crowley, centers on a writer Crudup living in a totalitarian state, who is interrogated by Goldblum and Ivanek about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of child-murders that are happening in his town.
Prior to Broadway, The Pillowman played at London's National Theatre and won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play. The Broadway production was nominated for six 2005 Tony Awards including Best Play and won two, for Best Scenic Design of a Play and Best Lighting Design of a Play.
