The Light in the Piazza is welcoming two new cast members. Aaron Lazar will replace Matthew Morrison as Fabrizio Naccarelli, and Chris Sarandon will take over for Mark Harelik as Fabrizio's father, Signor Naccarelli, a production spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com.
Lazar previously appeared on Broadway in The Phantom of the Opera and Oklahoma!. His other theatrical credits include mountings of The Scarlet Pimpernel, Carousel, Chamberlain, Nerds and the recent English National Opera's production of On the Town at the London Coliseum. He was also announced to star in the Broadway-bound musical Harmony which was canceled before its tryout began. Lazar is set to begin performances in The Light in the Piazza on September 2.
Sarandon, who will begin performing in Piazza on September 13, has appeared on Broadway in The Rothschilds, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Censored Scenes from King Kong and Nick & Nora with wife, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' Joanna Gleason. His off-Broadway credits include Marco Polo Sings a Solo, The Woods and The Voice of the Turtle. Sarandon is a familiar face from his work on the small screen. He earned an Oscar nomination for his supporting performance in Dog Day Afternoon. His other film credits include Fright Night, The Princess Bride, Just Cause, Little Men, let the Devil Wear Black and Loggerheads. He co-starred in the short-lived Sally Field TV series The Court and had a recurring role on Judging Amy.
