Kathleen Turner and Robert Cuccioli will make cameo appearances in the upcoming one-night-only Actors' Fund of America concert staging of On the Twentieth Century. As we previously reported, Marin Mazzie and Douglas Sills will headline the show, which will also feature Joanna Worley, Brooks Ashmanskas, Cheyenne Jackson, David Josefsberg, Andy Karl, Tyler Maynard, Brad Oscar and Christopher Sieber.
With music by Cy Coleman and book and lyrics by Betty Comden & Adolph Green, On the Twentieth Century based on the plays of Ben Hecht, Charles MacArthur and Bruce Millholland concerns the efforts of a grandiose theatrical impresario, Oscar Jaffe Sills, to persuade glamorous film star--and his former lover--Lily Garland Mazzie to appear in his new stage production. Lily's involvement will guarantee a hit for Jaffe and save him from his creditors as well as resuscitate his floundering artistic reputation. But many obstacles stand in the way of this reunion. Turner, who is fresh off her run as Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, will appear as film star Imelda Thornton and Cuccioli will play the doctor in the show.
The Actors' Fund's staging of On the Twentieth Century will be directed by Peter Flynn, choreographed by Denis Jones and feature musical direction by Seth Rudetsky, sets by Paul Weimer, costumes by Rob Bevenger, lighting by Jeff Croiter and sound by Scott Stauffer. Tim Pinckney is writing the concert adaptation of the piece.
