Lisa Kron's Well to Play at B'way's Longacre Theatre in March

Lisa Kron's Well, which had a successful engagement at the Public Theater last year, is moving to Broadway. It will begin previews at the Longacre Theatre on March 10.

Well opens with Lisa Kron's mother portrayed by Jayne Houdyshell sitting on a La-Z-Boy recliner in the middle of the stage. As the play goes on to deal with Kron's personal experiences of healing, a comedic coup d'état breaks out. The actors critique the script, her memories conflict with her flashbacks, her mother interrupts with her own opinions and Kron finds herself in danger of losing control.

The show, directed by Leigh Silverman, had its world premiere at the Public in the spring of 2004 with Kron, Houdyshell, Kenajuan Bentley, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Joel Van Liew and Welker White. Kron and Houdyshell are the only performer currently set to appear in the show on Broadway. Silverman will remain as director.

In his Broadway.com Review of the Public Theater mounting, William Stevenson wrote: "Parts of Well feel like a solo show, and Kron's observations are as sharp as her delivery. But the piece really comes alive when Kron interacts with the other actors playing characters drawn from her life... Kron, her excellent co-stars, and director Leigh Silverman have made this comedy as entertaining as it is clever. If more conventional plays have left you feeling blah, Well offers a surefire cure."

Well is set to officially bow on Broadway on March 30.
