Revival of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing! Books the Belasco

Lincoln Center Theater will present a revival of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing! at the Belasco Theatre. The play, directed by Bartlett Sher, is scheduled to begin performances on March 23 and officially open on April 17.

Awake and Sing! tells the story of a Jewish family in the Bronx that has fallen on hard times during the Depression. The show's original Broadway home was the Belasco Theatre, where it first opened in February 1935. It ran there until July 1935 and that same production, starring Luther and Stella Adler, reopened at the Belasco for a few weeks in September 1935. The show has since been revived three times on the Great White Way; the last time was in 1984.

Awake and Sing! reunites Sher with his creative team for The Light in the Piazza running at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre: set designer Michael Yeargan, costume designer Catherine Zuber and lighting designer Christopher Akerlind.

This production of Awake and Sing! will celebrate playwright Odets' centenary.
