Lincoln Center Theater has extended its sold-out production of Wendy Wasserstein's Third by one week. The show will now run at the Mitzi E. Newhouse space through December 18.
In Third, college professor Laurie Jameson's seemingly ordered life as a wife, mother and daughter, as well as educator, is thrown into disarray after she accuses a popular student of plagiarism, the aftermath of which forces her to question the values and ideals she has clung to for so long.
Two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest leads a cast that also includes Jason Ritter, Charles Durning, Gaby Hoffman and Amy Acquino in the production, directed by Daniel Sullivan. Third officially opened on October 24 to mixed reviews. In his Broadway.com Review of the mounting, William Stevenson wrote: "Wendy Wasserstein's new play about a college professor who accuses a student of plagiarism is timely, provocative and aimed squarely at Lincoln Center Theater's politically liberal for the most part audience. After a lively first act, however, Third rambles and loses its way."
