In Bridge & Tunnel, 14 characters all portrayed by Jones travel the roads of assimilation to tell the story of American change in an ever-changing America. Mohammed, a charismatic Pakistani accountant, Mrs. Ling, the Chinese mother adjusting to her daughter's alternative lifestyle and Nereida, a young Latina with a quick wit and an even faster tongue, are just a few of Jones' gallery of characters.
Bridge & Tunnel, which opened at 45 Bleecker on February 12, 2004 and ran there through August 15, 2004, received rave reviews during that off-Broadway run. Jones also earned an Obie Award for her performance. The show was announced for a Broadway run at the Circle in the Square with an April 2005 start. However, that production never materialized. A spokesperson said at the time, "the right house could not be booked."
The Helen Hayes is currently home to Latinologues, which recently extended its limited Broadway engagement through December 31.
