As we previously reported, Bernarda Alba, a musical version of Federico Garcia Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba, will be seen at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre this season.
The show, featuring words and music by Michael John LaChiusa and direction and choreography by Graciela Daniele, will begin off-Broadway performances on February 11. Yolande Bavan, Candy Buckley, Nikki M. James All Shook Up, Sally Murphy currently in Fiddler on the Roof, Tony winner Phylicia Rashad, two-time Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega, Saundra Santiago, Laura Shoop also from Fiddler on the Roof and Nancy Ticotin will comprise the cast.
Bernarda Alba is the story of a newly widowed mother Rashad, who enforces her iron will on her large household, only to have her daughters James, Murphy, Rubin-Vega and Santiago overwhelm her tyranny.
Bernarda Alba is scheduled to have its official opening on March 6. The tuner will feature sets by Christopher Barreca, costumes by Toni Leslie-James, lighting by Stephen Strawbridge, orchestrations by Michael Starobin and musical direction by Deborah Abramson.
