Joey McIntyre will play Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli in the upcoming musical version of Happy Days at the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, California. The show will also feature Rory O'Malley as Richie Cunningham, Wayne Duvall television's The District, the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? as Howard Cunningham, Cynthia Ferrer as Marion Cunningham, Christine Lakin television's Step by Step as Joanie Cunningham, Audra Blaser as Pinky Tuscadero, Ryan Bollman as Ralph Malph, Joseph Leo Bwarie as Chachi Arcola, Ernie Sabella Man of La Mancha, Sweet Charity as Arnold, Robert Petrarca as Potsie Webber, Heather Lindell known for playing Jan in the soap opera Days of Our Lives as Sally, DeQuina Moore Little Shop of Horrors as Lola, Matt Merchant as Count Jacques Malachi, Anna A. White as Lori Beth Allen, Paul C. Vogt as Jimbo Malachi, Jaclyn Miller as Hillary and Philip Lightstone as Bag.
McIntyre, who is best known from his days as a teen pop star in New Kids on the Block, appeared on the New York stage in tick, tick…. BOOM! which he also headlined in Japan and Boston and Wicked. In California he starred in the Reprise! concert staging of Babes in Arms. McIntyre was also the lead in the film version of The Fantasticks, appeared as a series regular on Boston Public and has enjoyed success with his solo studio albums. Last season he appeared on the hit ABC series Dancing with the Stars.
Happy Days creator Garry Marshall has been developing a musical version of the hit television series for many years. He has written the book for the show and will direct its world premiere at the Falcon. Paul Williams best known for writing the songs "We've Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays," "You and Me Against the World," "I Won't Last a Day Without You" and "An Old Fashioned Love Song" will provide the music and lyrics for Happy Days.
Happy Days, choreographed by Randy Skinner, is scheduled to begin performances at the Falcon Theatre on February 15 and run through March 12.
