Carson Elrod, Erik Heger, Kristine Nielsen and Michael Tucker will star in the Manhattan Theatre Club mounting of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Based on a Totally True Story. The show, directed by Michael Bush, is scheduled to begin performances at City Center Stage II on March 23.
The play centers on Ethan Keene Elrod, a young playwright and comic book writer who's on the verge of breaking through. When a veteran Hollywood producer Nielsen decides she wants to turn one of his plays into a horror movie, the frenzy that follows forces him to deal with the real drama in his life--his relationships with his boyfriend and his father Tucker.
Elrod is a Manhattan Theatre Club veteran, having been featured in the company's mountings of Reckless on Broadway and House/Garden and Comic Potential off-Broadway. His other New York theatrical credits include Noises Off, Waiting for Godot and Cavedweller.
Heger recently appeared in the La Jolla Playhouse production of The Scottish Play. He has also been featured in San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater's productions of The Master & Margarita, Naked, Romeo & Juliet, Midsummer Night's Dream and Of Thee I Sing.
Nielsen recently appeared off-Broadway in Miss Witherspoon at Playwrights Horizons. On Broadway she has been featured in The Green Bird, Jackie: An American Life and The Iceman Cometh. In addition to Miss Witherspoon, her off-Broadway credits include Pericles, Omnium Gatherum, The Underpants, Betty's Summer Vacation, Machinal, Dog Opera and MTC's Wonder of the World.
Based on a Totally True Story is set to officially open on April 11.
