Mark Ruffalo will appear as Moe Axelrod in the upcoming Lincoln Center Theater revival of Awake and Sing! on Broadway. He joins previously announced cast members Lauren Ambrose, Ned Eisenberg, Ben Gazzara, Jonathan Hadary, Peter Kybart, Pablo Schreiber, Richard Topol and Zoë Wanamaker in the production.
Ruffalo won Lucille Lortel and Theatre World awards for his performance in Kenneth Lonergan's This Is Our Youth. He also appeared in The Moment When off-Broadway. His other theatrical credits include mountings of Avenue A, Waiting For Godot, Still Life With Vacuum Salesman and Tent Show. Awake and Sing! is the story of a Jewish family in the Bronx struggling through the Depression. Widely considered Odets' masterpiece, the drama premiered on Broadway in 1935 and was a resounding hit for the now legendary Group Theatre.
Awake and Sing!, directed by Bartlett Sher, is set to begin performances at the Belasco Theatre on March 24 in preparation for an April 17 opening.
