Pacino to Reprise Salome in L.A. with Anderson and Chastain

Al Pacino will reprise his work as King Herod Antipas in Oscar Wilde's Salome at the Wadsworth Theatre in Los Angeles. Also set for the production, set to open April 27, are Kevin Anderson as Jokanaan and Jessica Chastain as Salome.

Salome follows the legend of King Herod and his unbridled lust for his young stepdaughter, Salome. Her arousal and sexual baiting of the pious Jokanaan John the Baptist, and his subsequent rejection of her, sets the stage for this tale of lust and revenge.

An eight-time Academy Award nominee and one-time winner for Scent of a Woman, Pacino has also appeared on Broadway in Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? Tony Award, Camino Real, The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel Tony Award, King Richard III, American Buffalo, Chinese Coffee and Salome in repertory, Hughie which he also directed and this staging of Salome. Anderson received a Tony Award nomination for Death of a Salesman and was also seen on Broadway in Orpheus Descending and Brooklyn. Chastain appeared in Richard Nelson's Rodney's Wife at Playwrights Horizons, on the upcoming miniseries Blackbeard and as a guest star on ER, Veronica Mars, Law & Order: Trail by Jury and Close to Home.

Pacino and Marisa Tomei starred in a concert reading of Salome, directed by Estelle Parsons, at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn from November 12 through December 22, 2002. That production transferred to Broadway for a limited engagement at the Barrymore Theatre in 2003. A West Coast tour of Salome with Pacino and Tomei was scheduled for an April 2005 start before being inexplicably cancelled on the same day it was announced.
