Sigourney Weaver is set to headline Playwrights Horizons' world premiere production of A.R. Gurney's Crazy Mary. The show, directed by Weaver's husband Jim Simpson, is scheduled to begin previews at the Mainstage Theater in May 2007.
This production reunites Weaver, Gurney and Simpson, who previously worked together on the play Mrs. Farnsworth at the Flea. She is a Tony-nominated actress, having earned a nod for her starring role in Hurlyburly. Weaver has also appeared on Broadway in The Constant Wife and Sex and Longing. Her off-Broadway credits include Das Lusitania Songspiel, Titanic, Gemini, Marco Polo Sings a Solo, Conjuring an Event, Beyond Therapy, Hurlyburly, The Merchant of Venice, The Guys also directed by Simpson and The Mercy Seat. Weaver is best known for her work in Hollywood. Her film credits include Ghostbusters, Working Girl, Dave, Jeffrey, The Ice Storm, Galaxy Quest, Heartbreakers, the popular Alien series, Tadpole, The Guys the movie adaptation of the play, Holes, Imaginary Heroes and The Village.
In addition to the announcement of Weaver, Playwrights Horizons has also added directors to two of its 2006-2007 season offerings. Leigh Silverman Well will direct Tanya Barfield's Blue Door starting in October at Playwrights' Peter Jay Sharp Theater and Joe Calarco Shakespeare's R&J will helm the musical Floyd and Clea Under the Western Sky beginning at the Mainstage in November.
