Broadway's Gavin Creel to Play Bert in West End Mary Poppins

While London-based actor Gavin Lee is moving to New York to play Bert in Mary Poppins on Broadway, New York-based actor Gavin Creel will be in the UK portraying that same character in the West End mounting of the show. Creel will take over for original cast member Lee at London's Prince Edward Theatre on July 26.

Creel received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Jimmy Smith in Thoroughly Modern Millie. He also appeared on the Great White Way in La Cage aux Folles. His off-Broadway credits include The Mystery Plays, Bat Boy and the Encores! mounting of Hair. His other notable credits include mountings of the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman musical Bounce at the Goodman Theatre and at the Kennedy Center.

Mary Poppins will continue to star Scarlett Strallen as Mary Poppins, Aden Gillett as George Banks, Eliza Lumley as Winifred Banks, Sarah Flind as Mrs Brill, Louise Gold as Miss Andrew, Diane Langton as Birdwoman, Ray C. Davis as Park Keeper and Andrew Pepper as Robertson Ay.
