The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced additional casting for its production of George Bernard Shaw's Heartbreak House. In addition to previously announced headliner Philip Bosco, the mounting will star Swoosie Kurtz as Hesione Hushabye, Byron Jennings as Hector, Lily Rabe as Ellie Dunn and Laila Robins as Lady Utterword.
Heartbreak House follows the unlikely romantic encounters that occur in an estate on the English countryside. Romance springs ever eternal but never mutual, and the most successful relationships have the least to do with love.
Kurtz earned acclaim and a Tony nomination for her last Broadway performance in 2004's Frozen which also featured Robins in its three-person cast. Kurtz won Tony Awards for her performances in Fifth of July and The House of Blue Leaves. Her other Broadway credits include Ah, Wilderness!, Tartuffe, Love Letters and Imaginary Friends. Probably best known for her work on the series Sisters, she is a nine-time Emmy nominee who recently had a recurring role on Showtime's Huff.
Jennings recently appeared off-Broadway in Stuff Happens. He has been featured on Broadway in Noises Off; Sight Unseen, Henry IV, Dinner at Eight, The Invention of Love, Carousel and Roundabout productions of Twelve Angry Men, The Man Who Came to Dinner, A Month in the Country and A Touch of the Poet.
In addition to Frozen, Robins has appeared on Broadway in The Real Thing and The Herbal Bed. Her off-Broadway credits include Frozen, Mrs. Klein, Tiny Alice, The Film Society, The Merchant of Venice, The Extra Man and Bloody Poetry. This year she was featured in the short-lived television series The Book of Daniel.
Heartbreak House, directed by Robin Lefevre, is scheduled to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on September 15 in preparation for an October 11 opening. Its limited engagement is expected to end on December 11. In addition to those named above, the cast will include Bill Camp, John Christopher Jones and Jenny Sterlin.
