The CBS broadcast of The 59th Annual Tony Awards, which took place in 2005, was nominated for two 2006 Emmy Awards. Hugh Jackman, who previously won an Emmy for hosting the 2004 Tonys, is again nominated. The broadcast is also nominated for Outstanding Music Direction.
Jackman will compete in the Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program category. His competition is Barry Manilow: Music And Passion's Barry Manilow, The Colbert Report's Stephen Colbert, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson's Craig Ferguson and Late Show With David Letterman's David Letterman.
Tony Awards Music Director Elliot Lawrence is up for Outstanding Music Direction. Also nominated in that category is another theatrical project, South Pacific In Concert From Carnegie Hall, which featured Reba McEntire and Brian Stokes Mitchell. Paul Gemignani, who served as Musical Director and Conductor of the concert, was nominated for his work. This South Pacific is also nominated in the Outstanding Special Class Program category. In addition to Lawrence who also received a nomination for his work on The Kennedy Center Honors and Gemignani, the nominees in the category are Bill Conti for The 78th Annual Academy Awards, David Foster for Andrea Bocelli: Amore Under the Desert Sky and Rob Mathes for The Kennedy Center Honors with Lawrence.
