Katherine Borowitz and Larry Pine will join Zoe Caldwell, Linda Emond and Denis O'Hare in the Classic Stage Company production of Yasmina Reza's A Spanish Play. Borowitz' husband, actor John Turturro, directs the mounting, which is scheduled to run off-Broadway from January 10 through February 18.
This is not the first time Borowitz and Turturro have collaborated professionally. He directed her in the films Mac and Illuminata both of which he also appeared in with her. The two also acted in five other movies Men of Respect, Quiz Show, The Search for One-Eye Jimmy, Secret Passage and Two Thousand and None together. Onstage, they were both seen in the CSC production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui in 1991.
Pine has appeared on Broadway in Bus Stop, Angels in America: Perestroika, Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, Joe Egg, End of the World, Private Lives and Cyrano de Bergerac. At the Public Theater, he recently portrayed Donald Rumsfeld in Stuff Happens. His numerous other off-Broadway credits include Alice in Wonderland, The Taming of the Shrew, Aunt Dan and Lemon, Better Days, Have You Spoken to Any Jews Lately?, Mizlansky/Zilinsky or "Schmucks", Saved or Destroyed, The Seagull and The Woman of Lockerbie.
A Spanish Play follows in the tradition of Corneille, Shakespeare and Pirandello, playing with the question of truth and illusion as an audience is asked to disentangle real life from the rehearsal of a play.
