Christine Baranski, Diane Davis, George Grizzard, Jackie Hoffman, Siân Phillips and David Rasche will star in the Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere of Paul Rudnick's Regrets Only. The play, directed by Christopher Ashley, is scheduled to begin performances at City Center Stage I on October 19.
Regrets Only is a comedy of Manhattan manners, exploring the very latest topics in marriage and friendship. The setting: a Park Avenue penthouse. The players: a powerhouse attorney, Jack McCullough Rasche, his deliriously social wife, Tibby Baranski, and their closest friend Hank Hadley Grizzard, one of the world's most staggeringly successful fashion designers. Add a daughter's Davis engagement, some major gowns, the President of the United States, and stir. Hoffman is featured as Myra Kesselman, the McCulloughs' long-term maid and Phillips plays Tibby's mother, Marietta Claypoole.
Baranski recently completed a run as the title character in Mame at the Kennedy Center. She is a two-time Tony winner, having taken home awards for her performances in The Real Thing and Rumors. Her other Broadway credits include Hide and Seek, Hurlyburly, The House of Blue Leaves and Nick and Nora. Despite her numerous theater credits, Baranski is best known for her work on the small screen. She received four Emmy nominations and one Emmy Award for her supporting performance in the series Cybill. She was again nominated for an Emmy for her guest work on Frasier. Since Cybill went off the air in 1998, Baranski has starred in two ill-fated sitcoms, Welcome to New York which she withdrew from the Roundabout's Broadway production of The Man Who Came To Dinner to do and Happy Family.
Davis made her Broadway debut last season in Festen. She was previously seen in Mother of Invention at Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Hoffman, who is currently appearing at California's Old Globe Theatre in The Sisters Rosensweig, received a Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut in Hairspray. Her other theatrical credits include The Book of Liz, Straightjacket, One Woman Shoe and numerous solo shows.
Phillips received Tony and Olivier nominations for her work as Marlene Dietrich in Marlene which she appeared in on Broadway and in London. She also appeared on the Great White Way in An Inspector Calls. In addition to Marlene, her West End credits include Maxibules, Eccentricities of a Nightingale, Ghosts, Hedda Gabler, Dear Liar, Brel, Man and Superman, Pal Joey, Major Barbara, The Manchurian Candidate, The Nightingale in Bloomsbury Square, Gigi, Thursday's Ladies, Vanilla, You Never Can Tell, Night of the Iguana and Painting Churches.
On Broadway Rasche appeared in The Shadow Box, Loose Ends, Lunch Hour, Getting and Spending and Speed-the-Plow. He has appeared off-Broadway in MTC mountings of Five By Tenn, Last Dance and Moonlight & Magnolias. His other off-Broadway credits include Geniuses, No One Will Be Immune and Edmund.
Regrets Only is scheduled to officially open on November 14.
